About this section
Shop Information asks about tools, materials and how work gets done in a shop. It is outside the AFQT, but it contributes to composites used for mechanical, construction and maintenance jobs.
Its 10 lessons begin with hand tools, measuring and layout tools, and fasteners and threads. They continue with woodworking tools and operations, metalworking tools and operations, and drilling, grinding and shop machines. Later lessons explain joining materials, materials and their properties, and drawings, symbols and shop terminology, ending with PPE, safe setup and work practices.
Many SI questions show a picture of a tool and ask what it is used for, so pay attention to the names and uses in each lesson and try to picture the job each tool is made for. Every lesson is followed by a lesson test.
