About this section
Auto Information tests how cars work and how they are maintained. On the CAT-ASVAB it is scored as its own subtest, and on the paper version it is combined with Shop Information. It is not part of the AFQT, but it matters for mechanical and vehicle-related jobs.
The category covers 10 lessons. It opens with engine fundamentals and the four-stroke cycle, then fuel, air and ignition systems, cooling and lubrication, and transmission and drivetrain. Next come brake systems, steering and suspension, automotive electrical and charging systems, and tires and wheels. The final two lessons cover maintenance tools and service basics and basic symptom diagnosis, where you connect a symptom to its likely cause.
No garage experience is required. Work through the lessons in order and take each lesson test to check your recall.
